Roger Scruton om politisk kultur i Vesten

Politics as a Profession

By Roger Scruton from the October 2010 issue

Angelo Codevilla’s examination of the American political class in The American Spectator of July this year will surely take its place among the seminal texts of American conservatism. It brings into clear focus the great danger to the American settlement that has arisen during the course of the last century — which is the slow, steady confiscation of political decisions by a self-defining elite. The cost of those decisions is borne by the people; the benefits accrue to the elite and to those who share its lifestyle. As a result the American political process is beginning to resemble the political process in Europe, where only unimportant matters are discussed in elected legislatures, and where the real decisions are taken behind closed doors, among members of the political class. This class includes a few elected politicians, or at any rate politicians who have at some point been elected to some office that may or may not still exist. But elected politicians form only a small proportion of the elite, most of whose members are in any case unelectable. Far more important are the upper echelons of the bureaucracy, the “captains of industry,” the trade union barons, the favored members of the professoriate, and the people who, for whatever reason, are owed favors by the ruling party.

Video: Geert Wilders tale i Berlin

Geert Wilders Berlin Oct 2

This speech may well go down as one most significant in this young century. I hope it finally places some nails in coffin of European self loathing.

Video: Firoozeh Bazrafkan torterer koranen

Firoozeh Bazrafkan har gjort det igen. Denne gang udsættes koranen for tortur.

Hænger i Sakineh, bliver jeres koran hængt. Stener i Sakineh, bliver jeres koran stenet.

The Jihad Against A Seattle Cartoonist

by Robert Spencer

October 5, 2010

It should be front-page news in every newspaper in the country: Seattle cartoonist Molly Norris has given up her job, her home, and even her identity because of death threats for Islamic supremacists. That Islamic jihadists can force an American citizen into hiding for exercising her freedom of speech is bad enough; that her cause has aroused only indifference from the media and the nation’s leading officials is even worse.

Logo Human Events

Norris was a popular cartoonist for the Seattle Weekly. Her life changed forever a few months ago when she announced “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” on Facebook. It was a lark, but with a serious point about violent threats and intimidation: if Islamic supremacists were threatening to murder European cartoonists Kurt Westergaard and Lars Vilks because of their cartoons of Muhammad, and anyone else who dared to draw him, then if everyone drew him, the thugs couldn’t possibly kill us all, could they?

 Is Obama’s Foreign Policy Working?

On the eve of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s most recent address to the UN, author and journalist Christopher Hitchens marvels at the confusion that characterizes the Obama administration’s policy regarding Iran.

This debate, moderated by political writer and analyst Peter Beinart (The Daily Beast), features Christopher Hitchens and George Packer.

The panel discusses America’s position in, and relationship to, the rest of the world under Obama — and whether or not his foreign policy has been effective.

Caroline Glick om arabiske bosættelser

A “peace” based on the nullification of Jewish rights is nothing more than a recipe for more war.

Do Jews have civil rights?

By Caroline Glick  – October 5, 2010

A striking aspect of the so-called building freeze in Judea and Samaria that expired last week is that an enormous amount of construction went on throughout the last 10 months. The Arabs of Judea and Samaria were not only building without restrictions, the US, Europe and the Arab states of the Persian Gulf bankrolled much of their construction.

The presumptive purpose of the freeze was to prevent Israel from creating “facts on the ground” that would prejudice the outcome of the so-called peace talks with Fatah. This goal is justified on the basis of the Palestinian misinterpretation of a clause in the 1995 agreement between Israel and the PLO in which they agreed that “neither side shall initiate or take any step that will change the status of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip pending the outcome of the permanent status negotiations.”

Douglas Murray om den evige terrortrussel

Preventing the Next Mumbai

By Douglas Murray – October 5, 2010

The threat of soft-target terror attacks in Europe seems confirmed by the nationalities of recent Predator victims.

The Wall Street JournalIt is almost two years since terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba traveled to Mumbai, India, and carried out a string of attacks on hotels, cafes, a Jewish center and other civilian targets. The horrific footage of those attacks spread around the world and raised obvious questions: Would it happen again—and if so, where?

In the past week that question appears to have been answered. Increasingly credible reports have emerged claiming that Predator drone attacks in Pakistan have killed a number of people planning Mumbai-style attacks in Western European cities. This fits with the increased number of alerts and heightened threat levels across Europe in recent weeks. Last weekend the British Foreign Office changed its threat level to “high” from “general.”

I Yemen følger man sharialoven.

Child bride horrors last a lifetime

Reem al Numeri is 14-years-old and recently divorced. She was 11 when she says her father forced her to marry a cousin more than twice her age.

Reem says she has been stigmatized by her divorce and now lives the life of an outcast. Without a husband or father to support her, she cannot attend school.

Her story has echoes of Nujood Ali — the Yemeni girl whose story sparked an international outrage that many thought would force change in the country.

Artiklen fortsætter HER hos CNN. Fra 1. oktober 2010 – videoen varer 4 minutter:

CNN’s Mohammed Jamjoom reports on the problem of child brides in Yemen.

Et klart mønster tegner sig. Konservative medier får etiketten ‘højreorienteret’, hvorimod venstreorienterede får ‘uafhængig’, ‘velanset’ eller ‘troværdig’.
