 Why Sakineh Is a Symbol

By Bernard-Henri Lévy – December 17, 2010

Logo Bernard-Henri Lévy Homepage

I would have liked to have reiterated, this week, why Marine Le Pen is none the less radical than her father and infinitely more dangerous. Or to have explained why Jean-Luc Mélenchon is Sarkozy’s best card, since he represents the best means, when the time comes, to weaken his adversary and eliminate him, like Jospin at the second round of the presidential election of 2002. I would have liked to have gone into, in depth, this strange affair of the Wikileaks and all the political and philosophical questions it raises or compels us to ask. But all that will wait. There will be other occasions to do so, and so I shall wait. For I cannot refrain from coming back to the Sakineh affair once again, and to the crazy week we have just been through.

Are the Beautiful People’s Pens Mightier Than the Iranian Regime’s Stones?

By Phyllis Chesler – 2010 December 15

Logo NewsRealBlog

The Beautiful People have just weighed in on the matter of She-Who-Would-Be-Stoned. More than eighty actors, models, singers, musicians, comedians, authors, philosophers, artists, and parliamentarians (mainly based in Europe), have just signed a letter on behalf of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani. The letter is addressed to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, and President Ahmadinejad.

The signatories include V.S. Naipaul, Wole Soyinka, Carla Bruni, (the first lady of France), Sting, Lady Antonia Fraser, Damien Hirst, Howard Jacobson, Isabelle Huppert, Bernard Kouchner, Bernard-Henri Levy—and American actors Mia Farrow, Robert De Niro, and Robert Redford.

Our World: The feminist deception

By Caroline B. Glick – December 14, 2010

Nowhere is fraud at heart of feminist movement more apparent than in silence of inhumane treatment of women who live under Islamic law.

Logo Jerusalem Post

Making the rounds on YouTube these days is a film of a group of manly looking women preparing for and conducting a “flash dance” in a Philadelphia food store. The crew of ladies, dressed in tight black clothes and sequined accessories, arrives at The Fresh Grocer supermarket, breaks into a preplanned chant ordering shoppers not to buy Sabra and Tribe hummus and telling them to oppose Israeli “apartheid” and support “Palestine.”

From their attire and attitude, it is fairly clear that the participants in the video would congratulate themselves on their commitment to the downtrodden, the wretched of the earth suffering under the jackboot of the powerful. They would likely all also describe themselves as feminists.

Herbert London om Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani

Women’s Rights Iranian Style

Herbert London – November 23, 2010

Logo Family Security MattersSakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani is a name unknown to most Americans. Yet her imminent execution in Iran has elicited protests across the globe. Ms. Ashtiani has been found guilty of adultery; tortured by women-hating barbarians and has become a symbol of Sharia inspired laws that mistreat women.

Ironically and poignantly Iran is on the United Nations Committee for Women’s Rights and will soon join the Executive Committee for the Asian region. Yet remarkably Ambassador Susan Rice has not uttered a word in behalf of Ms. Ashtiani, nor has she said anything about Iran’s representation on the UN committee, a silence that is deafening.

Will Global Protests Save an Iranian Mother from Imminent Execution?

By Phyllis Chesler – 2010 November 4

Phyllis Chesler IconI have just been told that the global protests against the imminent execution of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani have been successful; her execution has, once again, been delayed.

These protests were reported by the major media everywhere. Mina Ahadi, the spokesperson of the International Committee against Stoning and Execution, and Maryam Namazie, Iran Solidarity Spokesperson as well as others gave non-stop interviews.

Yes, even the New York Times and the Washington Post covered this story online.

Bernard-Henri Lévy opdaterer om Sakineh

Benådes, – ikke henrettes. Benådes ikke, – henrettes. Iranerne kan ikke finde ud af, hvor kommaet skal stå. Alle krydser fingre for Sakineh:

Sakineh, Ahmadinejad, and the “Insolents”

By Bernard-Henri Lévy

Logo Huffington PostAnd so Iran is backing down. The Islamic Republic does it in its own way, tortuously, but it is backing down. And that is what is evident in two stands made public this morning, after the new stay of execution accorded Sakineh under the pressure of public opinion and of the chancelleries.

The first comes from the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Manouchehr Mottaki, telling his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner that “the authorities of justice had not pronounced the final verdict in the affair concerning Sakineh Ashtiani” — a discreet, to say the least, way of making one (temporarily) forget the letter addressed by the Supreme Court of Tehran to the application of sentences office of Tabriz prison instructing that the young woman be executed as rapidly as possible.

SOS Sakineh

By Bernard-Henri Lévy – November 2, 2010

Logo Huffington PostThis Tuesday, November 2nd, the news came through the Iranian networks and then the international press agencies: the execution of Sakineh could be carried out in short time. So I am speaking again. Raising the alarm once again. Following is the transcript of two conversations with French journalists. The first is Laure Hache, who works at the online site of the magazine Elle. The second is Arthur Nazaret, and he interviewed me for the Journal du dimanche. The horror of the situation, the monstrosity of this execution that has been announced but that we may have, once more, put off is such that it seems to me these two texts may equally concern my American readers.

Is the Timing Any Accident?

By Phyllis Chesler | November 02, 2010 | FoxNews.com

The Iranian Islamic government is about to execute Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani in Teheran for the crime of committing “adultery” (which presumably occurred after her husband’s death). She was also charged for allegedly conspiring in the death of her husband.

Sakineh’s death is set for tomorrow, November 3. After torturing her for four long years, including lashing her 99 times in the presence of her 17-year-old son, Sakineh’s death is now set for a time when Americans will be totally occupied with our own midterm elections.

The story of her legal ordeal is as byzantine and treacherous as that of Alfred Dreyfus who was falsely accused of treason in France and sentenced to life on Devil’s Island.

Sakineh Mohammed Ashtiani henrettes i morgen?

En march for Sakineh

2. November 2010 – Helle Merete Brix
