In a chilling echo of the build-up to the war against Iraq, the Prime Minister suggested that the country’s drive to develop the bomb was potentially a direct threat to the UK.

His comments appeared to move Britain a step closer to war against the hardline Islamic regime.

Egypten: Israels ambassade evakueret

Det trækker op til krig. Det er svært at se, hvordan det overhovedet kan undgås:

Some 80 personnel and family members of Israel’s embassy in Cairo are safe after being removed in an emergency rescue operation.

During a riot outside the embassy Friday night, violent protesters broke down the eight-foot-high security wall surrounding the embassy compound and entered the building.

Once the riots turned violent, Israel’s ambassador to Egypt, embassy personnel, their families and Israelis staying at the embassy were evacuated to Cairo’s airport and returned to Israel on a special Israel Air Force flight.

During this long night, we were required to make many difficult decisions.  I would like to share with you one conversation from this night.  On the line was Yonatan, the security officer of the Embassy.  He and his men, six in number, were trapped in the Embassy building.  The mob entered the building and entered the office.  Only one door separated between the mob and Yonatan and his friends.  He sounded perfectly calm to me, and on the other hand understood the situation in which he and his colleagues found themselves.

At this critical time, when it was yet unclear how long they could last, the Israelis began final preparations for the battle of their lives. Using every object they could find, the guards built barriers near the door in the hopes of preventing intrusion.

Three out of the six guards were carrying weapons and at a certain point as the rioters moved closer, they fired warning shots into the air.

Mon de ville have overlevet? Næppe. De egyptiske sikkerhedsvagter dukkede op i sidste øjeblik. Israelerne blev klædt i muslimsk tøj og smuglet væk. Benjamin Netanyahu:

Den 28. august 2011 – lige efter at palæstinensere fra Egypten havde udført et terrorangreb, der kostede 8 israelere livet – skrev IDF, Israel Defense Forces, på sin hjemmeside:

According to a press release from Israel Press, In the footsteps of President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron, Benjamin Netanyahu will participate today in YouTube’s World View Project on a live broadcast, answering questions submitted by users from all over the world.

The interview will take place today 10:30 a.m. (PST) and will include an interview in Hebrew and in English, both with live streaming on YouTube. The interview in English will follow the Hebrew.

Over 3,670 questions were submitted to the YouTube World View site from citizens in nearly 90 countries, with a huge number of questions submitted from users across the Arab world, including Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Jordan as well as Japan, Pakistan, Canada, Nepal, Venezuela and others.

One topic which attracted hundreds of questions by users worldwide was the the fate of the kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, alongside numerous questions submitted on the issue of negotiations and chances for peace with the Palestinians. Other burning issues include the recent upheavals in the Middle East and housing and gas prices in Israel.

The White House accused the Syrian government on Monday of inciting deadly border clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian demonstrators, saying Damascus was trying to distract attention from its own violent crackdown on protests.

White House spokesman Jay Carney expressed regret for the loss of life in confrontations on Israel’s frontiers with Syria, Lebanon and Gaza on Sunday but said the Jewish state “has the right to prevent unauthorized crossing at its borders.”
