Sære udviklinger:

The Myth Of Soaring Muslim Fertility Rates

It is considered common wisdom among Western analysts that Muslim countries are plagued with large families and ever-swelling masses of young people are a threat to stability. Only problem is all the hard evidence to the contrary.

By Anna Lietti – March 31st, 2012

This story starts with a myth. It is the myth that the Muslim world is uniformly dedicated to making many (too many) babies, and that this has gone on for centuries.

Logo Worldcrunch

This mythology also has its very own Bible:  “Factors Affecting Muslim Natality,” by Dudley Kirk, an American professor of Population Studies. Published in 1965, this study embodied, scientifically speaking, the notion of a demography unique to Muslim countries that won’t transition to a family model with two children, as it did in the Western world.

Kirk’s theories have influenced this debate in a lasting way. Thirty years later, they were still inspiring Samuel Huntington in his work “The Clash of Civilizations,” where he presents his theory of an eternal conflict between the West and Islam. The demographic threat plays a central role in his thesis.

Demography Is Destiny in Syria

By Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi & Oskar Svadkovsky on February 6, 2012

The “peripheralism” and Malthusian underpinnings of an unexpected uprising.

Among the second wave of Arab Spring uprisings that followed Tunisia, Syria was the most spectacular “out of the blue” that suddenly arose in the face of the media and analytic community. Just days before Deraa exploded with protests last March, some analysts were still scrutinizing Syria’s circumstances and declaring the country to be immune from the Arab Spring. Nor did reporters who visited the country spot signs of a brewing storm.

In fact, throughout the Arab Spring, the media and experts repeatedly fell into the same trap of confusing the capital city with the whole country. On the eve of the Islamist landslide in Egypt’s elections various polls and informed individuals were putting the popularity of radical Salafis at between 5% and 10%. The Salafis have indeed won about 10% of the vote… but only in Cairo. Nationwide they took almost 30%, beating even those unrepentant pessimists who were betting on a Muslim Brotherhood spring. In some provinces they grabbed all of 50%.

America’s Demographic Future

by Joel Kotkin and Erica Ozuna – January 28, 2012

Perhaps nothing has more defined America and its promise than immigration. In the future, immigration and the consequent development of what Walt Whitman (1855: iv) called “a race of races” will remain one of the country’s greatest assets in the decades to come.

At a time when anti-immigrant fervor has been building, a number of states—including Arizona, Georgia, and Alabama—have enacted draconian laws aimed at apprehending undocumented immigrants. Those laws are widely seen even among legal immigrants and long-term residents as hostile to immigrants. Indeed, newcomers are already leaving those states. This Latino exodus has been happening in once-thriving neighborhoods in Gwinnett and Cobb counties in Georgia—as shown in business closures, arrest statistics, and declining church attendance—caused both by the economy and the increased immigration enforcement (Simmons 2010). Nationwide, there has been a declining number of unauthorized immigrants living in the United States, a decrease of 1 million from 2007 (Hoefer, Rytina, and Baker 2011).

Muslim demographics: Pull and push factors

by Nicolai Sennels on April 1, 2012

In Denmark, 89.1 percent of Muslims vote on the Left. In France the number is 95 percent. And certainly this tendency is the same all over the West. Thus Muslim immigration is in fact the importation of votes for the Left. Therefore it is not surprising that Leftist parties are the ones that work hardest to open our borders to more non-Western immigration. They burden their own countries with weak immigrants from a less civilized culture in order to secure their own reelection. They invite people to our part of the world who have many children and are only able to manage few kinds of jobs, and who will therefore always vote for the socialists.

While our states and municipalities spend billions of Euros, Kroners and Pounds on immigrants, the rest of us have to pay more and more in taxes.

Re-Engineering Humans: An Old Solution to Climate Change

March 29, 2012 – by Ed Driscoll

It’s no coincidence that global warming took off as an issue just as the Soviet Union fell; it’s top-down centralized government’s last best hope of controlling the masses. And like other forms of totalitarian worldviews, it doubles as a religion as well, as Czech President Vaclav Klaus noted late last year:

“I’m convinced that after years of studying the phenomenon, global warming is not the real issue of temperature,” said Klaus, an economist by training. “That is the issue of a new ideology or a new religion. A religion of climate change or a religion of global warming. This is a religion which tells us that the people are responsible for the current, very small increase in temperatures. And they should be punished.”

Global Warming – RIP

By Victor Davis Hanson – October 27, 2011

Not long ago, candidate Obama promised to cool the planet and lower the rising seas. Indeed, he campaigned on passing “cap-and-trade” legislation, a radical, costly effort to reduce America’s traditional carbon energy use.

The theory was that new taxes and greater regulations would make Americans pay more for fossil-fuel energy — a good thing if it reduced our burning of coal, oil and gas. Obama was not shy in admitting that under his green plans, electricity prices would “necessarily skyrocket.” His energy secretary, Steven Chu, at one point had even said, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” — that is, about $8-$10 per gallon. Fairly or not, the warming movement seemed to cast a tiny elite imposing costs on a poorer and supposedly less informed middle class.

The World at 7 Billion

This month, the 7 billionth person will be born on a planet already strapped for resources. To mark this extraordinary milestone, TIME explores the most pressing population issues of the day, from the quest for sustainable energy sources to a look at what our biggest cities could look like in the decades to come

By Bryan Walsh – Oct. 26, 2011

Time Magazine LogoMaybe it’s just the fact that the official day has been set for Oct. 31 — Halloween — but there’s a distinct whiff of panic and fear around the expected birth of the 7 billionth person on the planet. Here’s Roger Martin, chair of the NGO Population Matters, writing in the Guardian recently:

The 7 Billion Day is a sobering reminder of our planet’s predicament. We are increasing by 10,000 an hour. The median UN forecast is 9.3 billion by 2050, but the range varies by 2.5 billion — the total world population in 1950 — depending on how we work it out.

It’s a Small World

The United Nations is celebrating a planet with seven billion people. But some projections now warn that the global population may actually start shrinking.

By Colum Lynch | October 26, 2011

Sometime around Halloween, the United Nations will celebrate the birth of the world’s 7th billion baby. As U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told world leaders in New York last month, the 7th billion baby will most likely be poor and will inhabit an earth buffeted by the ravages of global warming, desertification, and dwindling food shortages.

Sounds swell. Given this kind of apocalyptic rhetoric, it’s no surprise that much of the media’s focus has been on the strain of an over-populated planet, one where more than 79 million people are added each year to the human family, overwhelming already overcrowded cities, fighting it out over a dwindling pool of natural resources.

But what if the world’s population actually shrank?

It’s Libel – Except When Mike Does It

Paul Driessen – October 26, 2011

Lewis Carroll died too soon. Just imagine the fun he’d have with the cliquish clan of climate catastrophe researchers who seek to control science, debate and public policy on global warming and energy – and then get outraged when someone challenges their findings, methodologies or integrity.

On October 1, Dr. Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University and “hockey stick” fame published an angry riposte in Colorado’s obscure Vail Daily Voices (circulation 15,000), expressing his umbrage over an article that had appeared in the free coffee shop newspaper a day earlier.

Global Warming: An Obituary

Alan Caruba – October 26, 2011

I used to write obituaries when I was a young journalist and I daresay they are one of the best read sections of any newspaper. We have arrived at a time when the obituaries for global warming (now falsely called climate change) are increasing.

The October 25th edition of The Wall Street Journal sports an editorial titled “The Post-Global Warming World” commenting on the fact that the 17th annual United Nations-sponsored climate change conference in November is likely to be an even greater flop than recent ones. Few, if any, nations will sign on to the huge hoax of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) to save the world from burning to a crisp.

Global Warming Is Real

James Delingpole – October 27, 2011

We know it’s getting warmer. That’s not the point

“The planet has been warming,” says a new study of temperature records, conducted by Berkeley professor Richard Muller. I wonder what he’ll be telling us next: that night follows day? That water is wet? That great white sharks have nasty pointy teeth? That sheep go “baaaa”?

No, the only surprising part of the results of the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature Project is the good professor’s chutzpah in trying to present them as new or surprising – let alone any kind of blow to the people he calls “skeptics” (or, when speaking to his friends at the Guardian, “deniers”).

Tutu describes ‘passion’ to stop child marriage

September 21, 2011

Desmond TutuArchbishop Desmond Tutu said Wednesday he is as passionate about fighting the widespread practice of child marriage as he was when he helped bring down apartheid in South Africa.

“My passion (that) now I hope to translate, transfer to this, is the same passion, commitment that I had when I was fighting, we were fighting, against apartheid,” Tutu told a conference in New York, where activists spoke out against the estimated 10 million marriages of underage girls around the world each year.

Iran’s War Against Knowledge — An Open Letter to the International Academic Community

Desmond Tutu and José Ramos-Horta – September 25, 2011

The forward progress of humankind in the last centuries has been fueled, more than any other factor, by increasing access to information, more rapid exchange of ideas, and in most parts of the world, universal education.

Freedom of education and freedom of information are integral to freedom of thought. Few advances have been made for humankind which were not preceded by new ways of looking at our world and new schools of thought.

South Africa: Tutu blasts ANC over Dalai Lama visa

By Donna Bryson – Oct. 4, 2011

Retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu, an anti-apartheid hero often described as South Africa’s conscience, slammed the ANC-led government Tuesday as “disgraceful” and said it is worse than the country’s former oppressive white regime for not issuing a visa to the Dalai Lama.

The African National Congress responded by calling Tutu’s comparisons to the apartheid regime and to toppled Arab dictatorships “very unfortunate and totally misplaced,” and said the government should be given time to explain its actions.

Apostasy – Tutu asks Iran to free pastor

October 9, 2011

Cape Town – Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu on Sunday called on Iran to free a pastor who faces the death penalty for refusing to give up Christianity and return to Islam.

“I would like to appeal to the Iranian authorities to free Yusef Nadarkhani, and allow him and all other members of minority religions in Iran to worship God,” Tutu said in a statement.

“Forcing anybody to renounce his or her faith is an utter violation of our universal human and religious values, and a renunciation of God,” Tutu said.

Arch-enemies: What’s not to like about Desmond Tutu?

Katharine Child – Oct 07 2011

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, who turned 80 on Friday, has been awarded the Nobel peace prize, led South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and even donated DNA to the Human Genome Project.

But as with any leader, he has earned himself his fair share of critics along the way.

The ANC government, for example, has often found itself squirming under the glare of his criticism — President Jacob Zuma’s administration, currently the subject of Tutu’s wrath for delaying the issuing of an entry visa to the Dalai Lam until it was too late for the Tibetan spiritual leader to attend the cleric’s birthday celebrations, is not the first: Run-ins with Zuma’s predecessor, former president Thabo Mbeki, were not unknown.

No, not terrorism, but a ‘tragic event’

Mark Steyn – March 4, 2011

According to Bismarck’s best known maxim on Europe’s most troublesome region, the Balkans are not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier. Americans could be forgiven for harboring similar sentiments after the murder of two U.S. airmen in Germany by a Kosovar Muslim.

Remember Kosovo? Me neither. But it was big at the time, launched by Bill Clinton in the wake of his Monica difficulties: Make war, not love, as the boomers advise. So Clinton did – and without any pesky UN resolutions, or even the pretense of seeking them. Instead, he and Tony Blair and even Jacques Chirac just cried “Bombs away!” and got on with it. And the Left didn’t mind at all – because, for a modern Western nation, war is only legitimate if you have no conceivable national interest in whatever war you’re waging. Unlike Iraq and all its supposed “blood for oil,” in Kosovo no one remembers why we went in, what the hell the point of it was, or which side were the good guys. (Answer: Neither.) The principal rationale advanced by Clinton and Blair was that there was no rationale. This was what they called “liberal interventionism,” which boils down to: The fact that we have no reason to get into it justifies our getting into it.

Gaddafi: The Steyn connection

By Mark Steyn – March 1, 2011

Like most folks outside Colonel Gaddafi’s immediate family, I greatly enjoyed Sheikh Qaradawi’s recent fatwa calling on “whoever can fire a bullet” to kill the Libyan leader. But Point de Bascule, the excellent Quebec website, points out that until recently Qaradawi’s Muslim Brotherhood and Gaddafi’s World Islamic Call Society were all buddy-buddy.

Along the way, Point de Bascule also sheds some light on a fellow called Dr. Mahmoud Ayoub, who was an “expert witness” at my “Islamophobia” trial at the British Columbia “Human Rights” Tribunal. He was flown in from his university in Philadelphia, and treated with fawning deference by the Canadian Islamic Congress’ oleaginous counsel, and only marginally less so by the troika of hack “human rights” judges. Dr. Ayoub described himself as a loyal Canadian citizen who shared Trudeau’s vision of a harmonious multicultural society but had moved to America because Canadian taxes were too high. At this point I leapt to my feet and cried, “Objection, your honor! Every loyal Canadian knows that confiscatory taxation is an indispensable part of Trudeau’s vision of a harmonious multicultural society.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the EU’s Red Baroness Ashton condemn the demolition of a hotel built by a Muslim Nazi collaborator

The Crime of Building a House

By Daniel Greenfield – January 10, 2011

In Niger, two Frenchmen were murdered by their Islamic kidnappers. Saudi Arabia sentenced a 23 year old girl who was gang raped to a year in prison and 100 lashes. Iran arrested two dozen Christians for the crime of being well… Christians. Which of these awful things did Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the EU’s Red Baroness Ashton forcefully condemn?

The answer is none of them.

Instead they forcefully and vigorously condemned the demolition of a hotel built by a Muslim Nazi collaborator and now owned by an American-Jewish businessman who bought it in order to build an apartment complex on the spot. An apartment complex for a mere 20 families that is somehow worse than all the aforementioned murders and atrocities. So much worse that they demanded the personal intervention of the highest diplomatic officials of the United States and the European Union.

WESTERN FRONT: Two States?

by Daniel Greenfield – January 4, 2011

Logo Arutz Sheva Israel National NewsAt a joint press conference with Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron stated that we “desperately need a two-state solution”. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is reportedly downbeat about the prospects for a Two State Solution, but insists that it is the only “reasonable solution”. J-Street, the radical left wing anti-Israel group intimately tied up with the Obama Administration, released an ad praising Congressman Joe Sestak, one of the “Hamas 54″, for his support of a “Two State Solution”. Alan Dershowitz responded with an Op Ed insisting that he had always been in favor of a “Two State Solution” and denouncing J-Street for daring to imply otherwise.

And with all that noise and clamor for a Two State Solution, the public would be forgiven for assuming that this was something a little more feasible than flapping your wings and flying to Mars. They would be forgiven for assuming that because they are naive enough to believe that leading politicians wouldn’t step forward to propose something completely insane, just because it was the same thing that had been proposed for the last 20 years, and proposing it again has become the thing to do. They would be forgiven for also assuming that the media would be able to fact check completely impossible proposals before they actually become de facto policy. And it’s a sad testament to the current state of the policy debate, that they would be wrong on both points.

Mange pigebørn dør i barselsseng.

Slaveri findes overalt i Vestafrika

Atar - Mauritanien
