How I lost faith in multiculturalism

In 1993, my family and I moved into Belmore in southwest Sydney. It is the next suburb to Lakemba. When I first moved there I loved it.

We bought a house just behind Belmore Sports Ground, in those days the home of my beloved Bulldogs rugby league team. Transport was great, 20 minutes to the city in the train, 20 minutes to the airport.

On the other side of Belmore, away from Lakemba, there were lots of Chinese, plenty of Koreans, growing numbers of Indians, and on the Lakemba side lots of Lebanese and other Arabs.

That was an attraction, too. I like Middle Eastern food. I like Middle Eastern people. The suburb still had the remnants of its once big Greek community and a commanding Greek Orthodox church.

Egyptian Armed Forces Demolish Fences Guarding Coptic Monasteries

Egyptian armed forces this week demolished fences surrounding ancient Coptic monasteries, leaving them vulnerable to attacks by armed Arabs, robbers and escaped prisoners, who have seized the opportunity of the state of diminished protection by the authorities in Egypt to carry out assaults and thefts.

“Three monasteries have been attacked by outlaws and have asked for protection from the armed forces, but were told to defend themselves.” said activist Mark Ebeid. “When the terrified monks built fences to protect themselves, armed forces appeared only then with bulldozers to demolish the fences. It is worth noting that these monasteries are among the most ancient in Egypt, with valuable Coptic icons and manuscripts among others, which are of tremendous value to collectors.”

A disturbing feature of the crisis in Egypt this week has been the paucity of any discussion of the implications of the decline of the Mubarak regime and the possible rise of fanatical Islamists for the Christians of Egypt.

This applies particularly to the sizeable Coptic Christian population, estimated at 10 to 15 per cent of the Egyptian population.

Fear of Islam has become news. Time magazine’s cover story of August 2010 was “Is America Islamophobic?” Bobby Ghosh wrote:

“… where ordinary Americans meet Islam, there is evidence that suspicion and hostility are growing. To be a Muslim in America now is to endure slings and arrows against your faith.” 

In Australia, SBS dedicated its final Insight progam of 2010 to ‘Fear of Islam’.  The episode’s internet page received a stellar number of viewer comments, topping all previous shows of the year including such high-interest topics as climate change, the national broadband network, the Federal election, education, boat people, Afghanistan, hospitals, and sexual attraction. The only show which came close to ‘Fear of Islam’ in viewer response levels was ‘Banning the Burqa’.

Europe’s Christmas and New Year holidays this year were overshadowed by widespread Islam-related controversies in nearly every European country — conflicts that reflected the growing influence of Islam thanks to mass immigration from Muslim countries, and an ominous sign of things to come, considering that Europe’s Muslim population is expected to double by the end of the decade that began this week.

Some of the most heated multicultural dust-ups during the December 2010 holidays took place in Britain, where a Muslim group launched a nationwide poster campaign denouncing Christmas as evil. Organizers posted across Britain thousands of placards claiming the season of goodwill is responsible for rape, teenage pregnancies, abortion, promiscuity, crime and paedophilia. They said they hoped that the campaign would help to “destroy Christmas” in Britain, and instead lead to Britons converting to Islam.

We’re told that anti-Muslim hysteria has reached a fevered pitch. Daisy Khan, wife Imam Rauf, point-man for the Ground Zero Mosque, says it’s “like a metastasized anti-Semitism.” What, that serious? “It’s not even Islamophobia; it’s beyond Islamophobia. It’s (gasp) hate of Muslims!”

Are Muslims being lynched by rampaging mobs? Are imams kidnapped and tortured to death? Are cars filled with Muslim civilians ambushed, and pregnant women shot to death at close range?

Favazza: Your book outlines some of the ways in which the Muslim Brotherhood plans to establish an Islamic government in North America and implement Sharia law. In their efforts to implement this plan, what has been the most damaging effect thus far–and what is the single most dangerous effect to come?

Gabriel: One of the most damaging effects of the implementation of the Muslim Brotherhood project is the slow islamization of the west in the name of multi-culturalism, tolerance, and diversity. The Muslim Brotherhood has crafted a master piece of a plan to infiltrate and dominate the West and “establish an Islamic government on earth.” The plan was written in 1982 and since then we can see how far they have advanced just by looking at Europe and how the continent has morphed in the last 30 years from Europe into becoming Eurabia.

The Muslim Brotherhood project is unusual because it includes methods other than violence to implement cultural Jihad. This plan relies on the non-Muslim population to unsuspectingly endorse and embrace it in the name of multiculturalism and freedom of religion.

Kulturberigelse: somalisk far fængslet for at kidnappe søn

Op til 12 år bag tremmer. Det kan en 38-årig somalisk mand indstille sig på, hvis han bliver dømt for den forseelse, han onsdag middag blev varetægtsfængslet for ved retten i Hillerød.

Det skriver Frederiksborg Amts Avis. Man regner med at sønnen opholder sig hos nogle slægtninge i Somalias hovedstad Mogadishu. Manden mistede forældremyndigheden efter en skilsmisse i 2003. Barnet skulle have været udleveret til moderen i Nairobi, men aftalen blev ikke overholdt.

 

Nordsjællands Politi har i længere tid haft en europæisk arrestordre på manden. Han blev, ifølge Frederiksborg Amts Avis’ oplysninger, anholdt i Paris for 14 dage siden og blev tirsdag hentet i Charles de Gaulle-lufthavnen af to danske betjente.

Det oplyser Jyllands-Posten. De danske myndigheder har kendskab til 49 sager med bortførte børn. Nogle af dem er sendt på genopdragelse, andre er kidnappet.

De fleste af Udenrigsministeriets sager om bortførte børn involverer lande som Tyrkiet, Algeriet, Syrien, Jordan, Iran, Irak, Libanon og Somalia.

Og hvad er det så lige, de lande har tilfælles?

Libaneser bosat i Sverige tiltalt for terrorplaner i USA

Den 41-årige svensk-libaneser Oussama Abdullah Kassir blev tirsdag udleveret til USA, hvor han anklages for at have oprettet en træningslejr for terrorister og for at drive internetsider med undervisning i terrorisme.

Oussama Abdullah Kassir blev anholdt i Tjekkiet i 2005, da han var på vej til Libanon. Det er på grund af Tjekkiets udleveringsaftale med amerikanerne, at han nu er havnet i USA.

Til en avis har han tidligere sagt, at han elsker Osama Bin Laden og at han fandt angrebet på USA i 2001 “jättebra”, men nu påstår han, at han ikke har noget med Al Qaeda at gøre.

Terroranvisningerne på hjemmesiden har ligget der i årevis. De indeholdt bla. manualer over, hvordan man laver gift og bomber, skriver Jyllands-Posten. Desuden skulle han have sagt,

at han har forbindelser til imamen Abu Hamza, der i 2006 blev idømt syv års fængsel for at opfordre til mord og racistisk had.

Terrortræningslejren skulle derimod ikke have været særligt effektiv.

I en anden artikel i EkstraBladet skriver man, at han skulle være medskyldig i terrorbombningerne i London og at hans egen oplæring i terror fandt sted i Afghanistan.

Folk, som af pressen bliver benævnt libanesere, er i ni ud af 10 tilfælde palæstinensere.
