“Getting to Denmark”
By Mark Steyn – May 4, 2011
It took the best part of a decade for Francis Fukuyama’s “End of History” to be chewed up and spit out by a resurgent Islam. His latest tome may get upended somewhat quicker. The new thesis attempts to explain why the old thesis didn’t quite turn out as planned:
At the heart of this remarkable book is the idea of “getting to Denmark.” By this, Fukuyama means creating stable, peaceful, prosperous, inclusive, and honest societies (like Denmark). As in his “End of History” essay, Fukuyama treats this as the logical endpoint of social development, and suggests that Denmarkness requires three things: functioning states, rule of law, and accountable government.

Protecting Muslim Girls From Rape is Now a Crime in Europe
by Phyllis Chesler on May 4 2011
Freedom of speech and women’s rights just took a major hit in Denmark earlier today when the public prosecutor found Lars Hedegaard, the President of the Danish (and International) Free Press Society, guilty of “hate speech” under section 266b of the Danish penal code.
Hedegaard’s crime was to note “the great number of family rapes in areas dominated by Muslim culture in Denmark.”
The prosecutor’s crime is far greater. Now, courtesy of this prosecution, it is officially “racist” to tell the truth about sexual violence against women in Denmark, at least when that violence is perpetrated by Muslim fathers, uncles, or cousins.

Denmark: Free Speech is for Muslim Hate Groups, Not Their Critics
by Phyllis Chesler on May 6 2011
The heroic Lars Hedegaard has vowed to appeal his recent criminal conviction in Denmark.
As I’ve noted, Hedegaard’s alleged crime was discussing Muslim male family violence towards Muslim women and children.

Hedegaard Show Trial in Denmark
Andrew G. Bostom – May 04, 2011

I learned of the horrific “honor” murder of a 20-year-old Muslim young woman in Michigan by her pious Muslim stepfather, within a short time after receiving news of the profoundly disturbing turn of events in the Lars Hedegaard show trial [...]
Juxtaposed, the two stories epitomize the self-loathing depravity afflicting the West.

Free speech dies in Denmark
By Melanie Phillips – 4th May 2011
Another bad blow against freedom in the west. Lars Hedegaard, President of the Danish Free Press Society and The International Free Press Society, was yesterday found guilty of hate speech under the Danish penal code. His crime – as I wrote previously here, here and here – was to draw attention to child abuse and violence against women in Muslim culture. The day after the interview, he stressed that his opinions were about Islam and not intended to refer to all Muslims.

Court Finds Man Guilty for ‘Racist’ Muslim Comments
By Dale Hurd – May 04, 2011
A Danish court has found a leading Islamic expert guilty of racism for his comments about Muslims, the latest ruling in an ongoing battle between free speech and Islam in Europe.
Lars Hedegaard was charged with racism under Denmark’s hate speech law after telling someone at a gathering about the problem of rape committed against Muslim girls by male relatives.

A Month in the Life of Islam in Europe
by Soeren Kern – May 5, 2011
The controversial Egyptian Islamic scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi is moving to Norway to help Muslims in the polar regions of the country establish their prayer times. Qaradawi, who has been banned from entering Britain and the United States for his defense of suicide attacks against Jews as “martyrdom in the name of Allah,” will work to determine the five daily Muslim prayer times, which are calculated according to the position of the sun.
In the polar regions of Norway and other parts of Scandinavia, the sun shines for twenty-four hours during the summer months and there is permanent darkness during the winter. In recent years, when the Islamic month of Ramadan has coincided with the summer season, Muslims in the northernmost parts of Europe have had to break their fast, eat their pre-dawn meal and pray the evening prayer all within the span of one hour. The Islamic Council of Norway hopes al-Qaradawi can find a solution to this problem in a country where Islam is now the largest minority religion.

Jurister: Begrundelsen for Hedegaard-dom uholdbar
