Religious discrimination on the increase worldwide

Nearly a third of the world’s population live in countries where restrictions on religious beliefs and practices increased between 2006 and 2009, a new report reveals.

Restrictions, which include social hostilities and government restrictions, rose in 23 of the world’s 198 countries (12 per cent), decreased in 12 countries (6 per cent) and remained essentially unchanged in 163 countries (82 per cent), the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life reported.

Experts on the persecution of Christians in that part of the world say the Nigerian Muslim terrorist group Boko Haram has been implicated in the murders, which have happened intermittently in the Christians’ own homes.

Brandishing the sword of Truth in one hand and a crucifix-topped scepter in the other, she’s got a message for the world, pipelined straight from God the Almighty. And she’s sharing it with us tonight.

France Enables an Islamist Takeover of Ivory Coast

Ironically, on the very day that France’s law banning the wearing of full-face coverings went into effect, French military forces helped Muslims add another country in Africa to their growing Caliphate – the Ivory Coast.

The French, the former colonial rulers in the Ivory Coast, forced the surrender of former president Laurent Gbagbo to forces loyal to president-elect Alassane Ouattara, who the international community had recognized as the victor in last year’s presidential election.

Ouattara is a Muslim, who prevailed in this election over his Christian opponent Gbagbo on the strength of masses of illegal immigrants who had emigrated over the last several decades from the neighboring Muslim states of Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea. It is estimated that nearly one fifth of the 21 million people now living in Ivory Coast are illegal immigrants, most of whom are Muslims.

Why is it so hard for strongmen to say goodbye?

By any rational standard, it would seem that the fighting and power struggles in the Ivory Coast, Libya, and Yemen should have been over weeks ago. Maybe soon they all will be: One conflict ended April 11 in the Ivory Coast. But the fact that they have already gone on as long as they have is an indication that there is a basic truth that those in the West fail to grasp about the individuals involved. After all, we ask ourselves: Why don’t Ivorian strongman Laurent Gbagbo, Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi, and Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh take the offers of comfortable exile apparently extended to them and leave? It would probably be better for their physical safety, and for their bank accounts. Following weeks of fighting and bargaining and demonstrations, what more do they have to prove?

That sort of reasoning assumes that what divides these strongmen from their adversaries are issues as benign and susceptible to compromise as, say, Medicare and tax rates. But these men are not horse-trading politicians as such; they have been fighting for something far more age-old, basic, and less susceptible to compromise: territory and honor, at least as they define it. Their world is not one of institutions and bureaucracies through which they rule; it is a world of dominating scraps of ground through dependence on relatives and tribal and regional alliances.

Don’t bet on Qaddafi stepping down. Or on America stepping up.

President Obama has announced that America will stop attacking Col. Moammar Qaddafi’s forces in Libya. He instead hopes that others can force Qaddafi out — or that the dictator will leave because of economic and diplomatic pressure.

It will apparently be up to NATO to finish the war — without direct American combat participation. The relieved Obama administration had never quite explained what the mission was in the first place — or for whom and for what we were fighting. Was the bombing to stop the killing, to help the rebels, to remove Qaddafi, or to aid the British and French, who both have considerable oil interests in Libya?

While most Muslim states have signed United Nations declarations on human rights, they usually add caveats stating these are accepted as long as they do not contradict Islamic law (shari‘a). Shari‘a is inherently discriminatory to non-Muslims and strongly influences the thinking and behavior of most Muslims, whether or not it has any formal place in a country’s legislation.

Christians face a variety of situations and attitudes in Muslim majority countries. The experience of Christians in stable moderate states like Jordan is quite different from that of Christians in Iran, Saudi Arabia or Sudan.

Root Causes of Persecution
The first generation of Muslims was a minority in the non-Muslim world it set out to conquer. For the Muslims, this created a sense of defensiveness and a fear of being overwhelmed by the conquered communities that persist today in spite of centuries of Muslim dominance. Even in modern secular Muslim-majority states, Islam and shari’a have such a hold on public perceptions that attitudes of contempt and practices of discrimination against non-Muslims are accepted as normal.

Mindst to millioner kvinder i u-lande lever med fistler, forårsaget af fødselskomplikationer. Fistlerne medfører udstødelse af kvinderne, fordi de bliver inkontinente og konstant lugter af urin eller afføring

 

Da en flok kvinder lænkede sig sammen og sprang i havnen i Mogadishu i Somalia, var det den sidste udvej fra et liv i fortvivlelse og elendighed. Kvinderne kunne ikke længere leve med de fysiske og psykiske konsekvenser af de fistler, de havde pådraget sig, da fødslen af deres børn udviklede sig problematisk.

Historien om de somaliske kvinder viser, hvor invaliderende og umenneskeligt et liv med fistler er, fortæller gynækolog og fistelekspert Peter Bech Larsen, der har arbejdet med fistelprojekter for Læger uden Grænser i blandt andet Liberia, Rwanda og Elfensbenskysten.

Fistler er huller, der opstår i kvindens underliv, når barnet ikke kan komme ud. Ofte sker det for meget unge piger, hvis bækkener ikke er fuldt udviklede til at klare en graviditet og fødsel. Ud over forfærdelige smerter i forbindelse med fødslen, der kan vare helt op til tre uger og ender med, at barnet dør, lider kvinderne også af store problemer efter fødslen.

Marokkanske FN-soldater voldtager børn i Elfenbenskysten

I en erklæring fra FN hedder det, at ONUCI ved en intern undersøgelse har afsløret “alvorlige anklager om omfattende seksuel udnyttelse over seksuelle overgreb begået af et FN-militærkontingent, der gør tjeneste i Bouake”.

De marokkanske soldater har angiveligt i omfattende grad udnyttet mindreårige, lokale piger seksuelt.

Pædofili. Velkendt fænomen i islam. Voldtægt af vantro uden tørklæde er også kendt. Den ene halvdel af befolkningen i Elfenbenskysten er ikke muslimer.

De marokkanske soldater var i forvejen blevet bedt om at holde sig på deres kaserne, fordi de ikke kunne afstå fra at demonstrere muslimsk voldskultur. Nogle af de mindreårige piger er gravide eller har allerede fået børn efter voldtægt eller anden form for seksuel udnyttelse. Soldaterne siger, at børnene selv ville og at det foregik imod betaling.

FN suspenderede lørdag et marokkansk militærkontingent fra medvirken i en fredsbevarende styrke i Elfenbenskysten.
 
Suspenderingen sker, mens FN undersøger påstande om, at marokkanske soldater har gjort sig skyldige i omfattende seksuelle overgreb i den vestafrikanske nation.

FN siger bare, at soldaterne vil blive sendt hjem. Men for det første er det forbudt for FN-soldater at have sex med de lokale civile i det hele taget. For det andet er det forbudt at have sex med mindreårige. Nogle af pigerne var helt ned til 13 år. Og for det tredje er voldtægt forbudt.

At man bare bliver sendt hjem, er jo nærmest en præmie for en udstationeret værnepligtig. Soldaternes hjemlande skal selv retsforfølge dem, men sandsynligheden for at det sker er mildt sagt ringe. Vidnerne følger jo ikke med. Reuters skriver:

A 2005 U.N. report said soldiers should be punished for any abuse, their pay docked and a fund set up to assist any women and girls they impregnated. But member nations have not agreed.

Misbruget har stået på i tre år uden at der er blevet grebet ordentligt ind. En talsmand fra FN har kaldt de babyer, der er kommet ud af tragedien, for illegitime børn. Så er niveauet vist lagt???

Hviderusland, Kina, Elfenbenskysten, Ækvatorial-guinea, Eritrea, Laos, Saudi-Arabien, Syrien og Zimbabwe får også bundkarakterer hos Freedom House.

Og landene slipper for billigt, når det gælder om at få på puklen for at undertrykke sine borgere, siger de to organisationer Freedom House og U.N. Watch, og langer dermed ud efter FN’s menneskerettighedsråd.

Ja, det kan man vist roligt sige. FNs Generalforsamling burde sætte ind overfor FNs Menneskerettighedsråd.
