Selvom England er et af de europæiske lande, der er mest præget af masseindvandring, har landet først for nylig fået et islamkritisk parti. Sappho har mødt lederen af det nystiftede British Freedom Party, Paul Weston.

When the Qaeda leader Abu Zubaydah was captured, six months after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, C.I.A. lawyers were asked to approve a battery of tough interrogation techniques hastily thrown together. They did not much fear that posterity would think them ruthless. On the contrary, the C.I.A.’s No. 2 attorney worried that “with all the restrictions and precautions and scrutiny by lawyers and doctors and psychologists,” they’d look like a bunch of wimps.
It is not as a bunch of wimps that history has remembered George W. Bush’s antiterrorist team. The Harvard law professor Jack Goldsmith, who worked briefly in the Bush administration’s Office of Legal Counsel, has himself been critical of his former colleagues’ “unilateralism” and their preference for power over persuasion. But he has also been an eloquent dissenter from the view that the Bush administration simply ran roughshod over the Constitution.[...]

“Laser uranium enrichment is so attractive that that it will be implemented — and Iran will become the test case. What must be demanded is the complete opening of the country to appropriate inspection. Anything else would be too little – much too little.” Hans Ruhle
German nuclear weapons expert Hans Rühle warned in the daily Die Welt May 21 that Iran can enrich uranium using laser technology that is much harder to detect than centrifuges. Rühle headed the German Defense Ministry’s policy planning staff during the 1980s. In a widely-discussed commentary last February 17, he argued that Israel has the capacity to cripple Iran’s nuclear weapons program. He also presented evidence in Die Welt that Iran may have tested a nuclear weapon in North Korea.
“Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadihejad announced in 2010 the ‘good nuclear news’ that Iran then possessed laser technology for uranium enrichment. Iran would not use this technology immediately, Ahmadinejad insisted, but his extremely positive characterization of the new technological option casts strong doubt on Iran’s intentions and suggests that Iran’s voluntary restraint on enrichment is an attempt at diversion,” Rühle wrote in his May 21 analysis.

The story generated a huge number of commentaries from readers, some of them originating from Muslim Countries. They harshly dispute and deny the veracity of the facts you mention in your paper. Some argue that this abomination did not take place in Tunisia—and I do believe so—but somewhere in Iraq, that the young man is not a Christian but a Shiite, that he was not slaughtered for apostasy but for being a spy of the Americans, and so on… It’s true that the facts are not properly documented : we don’t know even the date of this event, the place, the name of this unfortunate young man… Do you have any additional details and data to help answering ? Many thanks for your kind and urgent attention.

The real war on women is in the Middle East.
By Mona Eltahawy | May/June 2012
In “Distant View of a Minaret,” the late and much-neglected Egyptian writer Alifa Rifaat begins her short story with a woman so unmoved by sex with her husband that as he focuses solely on his pleasure, she notices a spider web she must sweep off the ceiling and has time to ruminate on her husband’s repeated refusal to prolong intercourse until she too climaxes, “as though purposely to deprive her.” Just as her husband denies her an orgasm, the call to prayer interrupts his, and the man leaves. After washing up, she loses herself in prayer — so much more satisfying that she can’t wait until the next prayer — and looks out onto the street from her balcony. She interrupts her reverie to make coffee dutifully for her husband to drink after his nap. Taking it to their bedroom to pour it in front of him as he prefers, she notices he is dead. She instructs their son to go and get a doctor. “She returned to the living room and poured out the coffee for herself. She was surprised at how calm she was,” Rifaat writes.

As Islam has spread throughout the world, it has combined religion with native cultural practices. Many centuries later, separating the religion from the underlying culture has become difficult. That’s why Islam as practiced in Egypt differs from, say, Islam as practiced in Malaysia.
Mona Eltahawy describes cultural practices in Egypt and the Middle East that predate Islam yet have been embraced by many people now as part of Islam. The practice of genital mutilation of women, for example, is found only in Africa. If it were part of Islam, it would be practiced by Muslims all over the world.

Fighting the Ideological War: Lessons from the United Kingdom and the United States
The Obama Administration has had a longstanding policy of trying to remove all reference to Islam and Islamic ideology from discussions about terrorism. Widespread changes have been instituted in counterterrorism training with the result that many U.S. experts on radical Islam have now been sidelined and are restricted in what they may or may not teach about Islamic ideology.
For some time the British government pursued a similar policy. However, seeing its shortcomings, they recently changed course. Recognizing the centrality of Islamist ideology to domestic radicalization, the United Kingdom re-launched the “Prevent” strategy. This strategy not only examines Islamist ideology but also directly confronts it. As the UK government’s June 2011 framework document states, “The Prevent program we inherited from the last Government was flawed… It failed to confront the extremist ideology at the heart of the threat we face.” So as the British government is moving deeper into the study and confrontation of Islamist ideology, the United States is moving in the very opposite direction.
Dr. Patrick Sookhdeo has worked closely with the United Kingdom’s police force as well as with U.S. law enforcement and military authorities. Join us as he discusses this critical component of U.S. counter-terrorism strategy and shares his insights into these two different strategies.

Ten questions for the Council on American Islamic Relations
By Brigitte Gabriel and Frank Gaffney | March 22nd, 2012
The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has launched a propaganda campaign attacking a state legislative initiative that is designed to protect the constitutional rights of all Americans, including Muslims.
That initiative is known as American Laws for American Courts (ALAC).
CAIR claims this bill would have the opposite effect — infringing upon Muslims’ and others’ right to freedom of religion. CAIR’s real motivation, however, is not to safeguard the U.S. Constitution, but rather to promote the insinuation here of Shariah, a totalitarian Islamic political-military-legal doctrine. Shariah requires and enforces discrimination against women, children, homosexuals, atheists, members of other religions such as Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, as well as Muslims who repudiate the dictates of that doctrine.

Colin Powell on the Bush Administration’s Iraq War Mistakes
May 13, 2012 – Colin Powell
Chaos in Baghdad
On the evening of Aug. 5, 2002, President Bush and I met in his residence at the White House to discuss the pros and cons of the Iraq crisis. Momentum within the administration was building toward military action, and the president was increasingly inclined in that direction.
I had no doubt that our military would easily crush a smaller Iraqi army, much weakened by Desert Storm and the sanctions and other actions that came afterward. But I was concerned about the unpredictable consequences of war. According to plans being confidently put forward, Iraq was expected to somehow transform itself into a stable country with democratic leaders 90 days after we took Baghdad. I believed such hopes were unrealistic. I was sure we would be in for a longer struggle. Colin Powell reflects on lessons from the battlefield to the halls of power—including the mistakes of the Iraq War, his infamous U.N. speech, and the crimes at Abu Ghraib.
Stoned to death for being an emo: NINETY Iraqi students killed for having ‘strange hair and tight clothes’
Number of deaths could be even higher

10 March 2012
Youngsters in Iraq are being stoned to death for having haircuts and wearing clothes that emulate the ‘emo’ style popular among western teenagers.
At least 14 youths have been killed in the capital Baghdad in the past three weeks in what appears to be a campaign by Shia militants.
Militants in Shia neighbourhoods, where the stonings have taken place, circulated lists yesterday naming more youths targeted to be killed if they do not change the way they dress.
Since the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, one of the most frequently recurring talking points has been speculation as to whether there will be a sectarian civil war in the country. Throughout this winter, the media at large and numerous analysts have been quick to note incidents of mass casualty attacks, pointing to an upsurge in fatalities, particularly in the month of January.
In addition, there has been a tendency to tie the increase in violence to the U.S. withdrawal and the subsequent political crisis that entailed the issuing of an arrest warrant against Tariq al-Hashimi, the Sunni vice-president of Iraq, on allegations of involvement in terrorism, as well as a boycott of the Iraqi parliament by the main opposition bloc al-Iraqiya, which has now decided to end its boycott.

Walid Shoebat was born in Bethlehem, Israel. As a young man he became a member of the PLO and participated in acts of terror and violence against Israel. He was once imprisoned in Jerusalem for enticement of violence. After entering the U.S. he worked as a counselor for the Arab Student Organization in Chicago. In 1993, Walid studied the Bible in a challenge to convert his wife to Islam and instead he converted to Christianity. Walid has authored several books including “Why We Want to Kill You”, “Why I Left Jihad”, “For God or For Tyranny” and “God’s War on Terror”
Walid began by defining taqiyya which is the tactic of lying in order to further the cause of Islam. He noted that muruna, however, takes taqiyya a step further. It’s a stealth strategy that sanctions all prohibitions within Islam, even blasphemous and violent ones.
Vic and Walid looked at examples of how this tactic of muruna has affected our nation’s view of Islam. They include:
Last year the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, told Congress that the Muslim Brotherhood is largely secular.
A devout Muslim, Mohamed Elibiary, has been named to the Homeland Security Advisory Council and has been given access to sensitive data.
According to the Judicial Watch Blog, the FBI has destroyed instructional material that characterizes Muslims as prone to violence or terrorism. Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress that anti-Muslim instructional materials hurt the country’s fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda.

I debated Michael Ghouse. I wish every Muslim were like Mike Ghouse, but most aren’t, and Mike himself knows that these are devout, observant, knowledgeable Muslims. He cannot pretend they are not Muslim. If they are “extreme,” it is only in their piety and devotion.
We also discussed Obama’s failed Afghan strategy. The Obama adminsitration is throwing in the towel on the war on terror. The Washington Post reported today that Obama has been secretly releasing high level jihadists from GITMO in a stunning capitulation to the Taliban.
The Taliban has already been declared to be not the enemy, and Obama administration officials including Biden have talked about dealing with the “moderate Taliban,” a concept the Taliban have derided. The Administration has no plan, no focus, no enemy in Afghanistan, and we’re wasting lives and money being there. Obama even just promised Karzai that it would not carry out any more raids like the one that took out OBL. A bipartisan committee has found the Taliban stronger than ever. The administration is actively aiding the stealth jihad in legal cases at home and has effectively surrendered in Afghanistan. He hasn’t just thrown in the towel on the war on terror — for all intents and purposes, he has switched sides.

Secret U.S. program releases high-level insurgents in exchange for pledges of peace
By Kevin Sieff, Published: May 7
The United States has for several years been secretly releasing high-level detainees from a military prison in Afghanistan as part of negotiations with insurgent groups, a bold effort to quell violence but one that U.S. officials acknowledge poses substantial risks.
As the United States has unsuccessfully pursued a peace deal with the Taliban, the “strategic release” program has quietly served as a live diplomatic channel, allowing American officials to use prisoners as bargaining chips in restive provinces where military power has reached its limits.
The Obama administration is doing its utmost to promote the fortunes of the Islamist parties in Egypt. A State Department official declared that with the rise of these radical groups after the Arab Spring, “people who once might have gone into al Qaeda see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism.” They see this as a victory. The problem is, so do the terrorists.
Last year, the White House began peddling the line that the uprisings in the Middle East were a repudiation of the al Qaeda model of seeking change through terrorism. The argument was that while America opposed violent extremism, the rise of nonviolent radical movements was just fine, and even commendable. Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri quickly dismissed this claim, saying that from the terrorists’ point of view, it didn’t matter whether an Islamist victory came through violence or not. The means were unimportant except as they related to the end state: the imposition of hard-line Shariah-based laws and policies.
