Five years ago in June 2006, the song “Hips don’t lie” by Shakira was at the top of the charts, the Pixar movie “Cars” was a blockbuster hit and Simon Cowell’s “America’s Got Talent” had just debuted and was the number one show on television.
Shakira is still a hit. As a Unicef ambassador and founder of the Barefoot Foundation, she was in Israel this past week with Shimon Peres at the Israeli Presidential Conference promoting education. Disney/Pixar just released “Cars 2” in 3D and Simon Cowell is working on a new show, “The X-Factor”.
Five years is a long time, but for the Shalit family it has been an eternity.

Sunday was the first day of Sgt. Gilad Schalit’s sixth year in captivity. Schalit was kidnapped on June 26, 2006 and has been held hostage by Palestinian terrorists affiliated with Hamas in Gaza ever since.
For five years, Schalit has been held incognito. His terrorist captors have permitted him to send but one letter to his family and released but one video of Schalit over this entire period. He has been denied visits by the International Committee of the Red Cross. He was clearly emaciated in the video.

Opdatering den 29. august 2011: Gilad Shalit blev 26 år gammel den 28. august – altså i går. Der er ikke meget at finde i pressen i den anledning. Den israelske soldat har siddet i fangenskab siden han var 19…
