Today’s Turkey is a cautionary tale for the West. But Western leaders are loath to consider its lessons.

Ever since Turkey’s Islamist Justice and Development AKP party under Recip Tayip Erdogan won the November 2002 elections, Western officials have upheld the AKP, Erdogan and his colleagues as proof that political Islam is consonant with democratic values. During Erdogan’s June 2005 visit to the White House, for instance, then-president George W. Bush praised Turkish democracy as “an important example for the people in the broader Middle East.”

Unfortunately, nine years into the AKP’s “democratic” regime it is clear that Erdogan and his colleagues’ embrace of the language and tools of democracy was a mile wide and an inch thick. They used democracy to gain power. Now that they have power, they are systematically destroying freedom in their country.

The couple was stranded on Amanos Mountain yesterday evening owing to a vehicle failure. Although the police and gendarmerie searched for them for hours in heavy snowfall, they were unable to locate them.

Finally, the desperate couple decided to announce that they were in possession of a book about the Cemaat. As the battery on their cell phone threatened to flicker out, Gülcan Görenel called a former colleague, Sevilay Görkem, to say that she had been working for some time on a book called Dancing with the Imam. The book, she said, would bring some very important facts to light. Görenel hung up before her friend could reply and started waiting with her husband.”

Who is Ann Barnhardt?

Bursting onto the blogosphere scene just a few weeks ago with her controversial videos lambasting Sen. Lindsey “You Jackass” Graham and her even more incendiary commentary on Islam, in which she bookmarked with raw bacon strips various Suras in the Koran (“evil”) and read each one before tearing out the page and lighting it on fire in a glass bowl behind her, Ann has become the “Joan of Arc” of the conservative base.

Brandishing the sword of Truth in one hand and a crucifix-topped scepter in the other, she’s got a message for the world, pipelined straight from God the Almighty. And she’s sharing it with us tonight.

She was invited by the Students at T.U. Purpose. and introduced by Alvaro Enrique Watson, President of T.U. Purpose. The event was at Temple University in Philadelphia . April 12, 2011 in Gladfelter Hall

There was a torrential rain outside so the audience may have been small but they were very diverse (age wise and well as politically).Part 2 is the Q and A and is as informative as her presentation.

There was one glitch in the evening, the university failed to supply any amplification (even though it had been requested) but everyone managed to make sure they were heard. Nonie Darwish is an impressively brave woman. And her message about the dangers of Sharia was confidently clear and honest. Unfortunately, those of the student body who came with their minds closed to Nonie’s presentation, seemed to leave with their minds unchanged.

Kudos to the students at Temple U (particularly Alvaro Watson) for daring to bring Nonie and the Truth about Sharia to the campus. In that sense, mission accomplished.

Following Richard Goldstone’s recent retraction of the central finding of his infamous report, the other three members of his U.N. committee have clearly been depressed. The committee chair had gotten all of the glory from the U.N.’s anti-Israel bloc for producing the blood libel that Israel had deliberately set out to murder Palestinian civilians, not responded to years of Palestinian terrorist attacks on its own civilian population. Their names were rarely, if ever, mentioned. The retraction threatened to wipe them completely from the history books. So in another newspaper yesterday, they demanded the recognition they feel they so richly deserve.

Christine Chinkin, Desmond Travers, and Hina Jilani published an article in the Guardian in which they reiterate their enthusiasm for their libelous conclusions and complain: “We regret the personal attacks and the extraordinary pressure placed on members of the fact-finding mission since we began our work in May 2009. This campaign has been clearly aimed at undermining the integrity of the report and its authors.” Indeed, the “integrity” of both the report and its authors is exactly what is in issue.

While attention was focused on a possible government shutdown last week, another event on Capitol Hill slipped by virtually unnoticed. U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice appeared before both a House Appropriations subcommittee and the Foreign Affairs Committee — and her testimony indicated that America is now perched on a foreign-relations precipice at least as dangerous as the looming economic abyss.

Rice’s oral and written testimony offers the most detailed defense yet of the central foreign-policy plank of the Obama administration, known as “engagement.” In short, the Obama doctrine has outfitted American interests with U.N.-made cement shoes. Rice’s apologia, therefore, hands Republican presidential hopefuls a cornucopia of opportunities to articulate a plan to reverse President Obama’s abdication of leadership and responsibility to the United Nations.

Among his comments he said that NATO members are resolved and united in carrying out the mission to protect civilians from Colonel Qadhafi’s forces. This briefing took place during a two-day meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers.

Francis Fukuyama came to public notice in 1989 by predicting, in a famous article, the “end of history.” He argued there that all people everywhere, following the arc of history toward its “end” or goal, would eventually aspire to liberty and construct a society grounded in liberal values. Since then people have ridiculed the prediction by pointing to current conflicts both within societies and between them. Yet the prediction is far from falsified, for Mr. Fukuyama had clearly conceded that centuries might pass before all societies found themselves on the same path. In the meantime, he noted, conflicts would inevitably erupt, even genocidal ones.

One question that hovered over the end-of-history argument was what political idea—and what real-life political structures—would best serve mankind’s own destiny or “end.” Hence the impetus behind “The Origins of Political Order,” a sweeping survey that tries to explain why human beings act as they do in the political sphere. Magisterial in its learning and admirably immodest in its ambition, the book traces the history of political organization and principle from “prehuman times” up to the period of the French Revolution. Future volumes, we are told, will take the story up to the present.
